Types Of Learning Disabilities

Marshall Said:

Mental Illness & Learning Disabilities In A Adoptive/Foster Parent?

We Answered:

chances are slim to none. if she lies like mine did, she'll be just fine. just tell them what they want to hear. that's what adoption is all about.

Alexander Said:

If you have ANY type of learning disability, have you ever experienced any social difficulties?

We Answered:

Howdy-

W/ ADD, it was tough remembering to show up on time or at all to social events. That made a lot of people mad so friends got tired of that nonsense and moved on. I am also slow in math (dyscalcula) so while everyone was seemingly breezing through the classes in high school I had given up and basically slept though the entire course year (failed the class of course). It's easy to isolate yourself when you're ashamed of being "the stupid one". I just wanted to hide away until after graduation-- which was eventually from a different school that didn't care if I was slow. They graduated everyone so long as you showed up occasionally. I got robbed of an education because back then
there weren't interventions like they have now (IEP's for example). I doubt there's anything useful to quote but feel free if you find something useful.

Joel Said:

Are there any types of finacial aid for people with learning disabilities in Arkansas?

We Answered:

Find out what your school has to offer by calling the Office of Disability Services: they may have additional scholarships or financial aid available.
Also, you're still eligible for federal student loans; talk to your Office of Financial Aid about that.

Freddie Said:

Is Auditory Processing Disorder a type of Learning Disability?

We Answered:

Auditory processing disorder is regarded as an umbrella term whether or not APD can be regarded as a learning disability falls down to the specific effects through which the Disorder manifests itself in an individual.

In most cases the manifestation of this disorder can and is regarded as a learning disability, however it would not be true to say that every case is regarded as a disability.

In short, it depends on the individual sufferer and the extent to which the disorder hinders their ability to function.

p.s. I know that sounds vague but as I said APD is an umbrella term implying Generality, whereas the identification of Learning Disabilities is a case of specifics.

Dave Said:

what type of learning disability do I have in that I can read very good but my spelling is terrible?

We Answered:

i saw on the discovery channel a while back that not everyone has the ability to spell good. It doesn't mean anything really. Just that some people aren't good spellers, it has nothing to do with their overall intellect. Then they named a bunch of famous smart people who can't spell. It's not a learning disability.
