If you are looking for a realistic laptop that looks like the real thing but plays games, learning activities, etc, definitely check out the VTech Nitro Notebook. At just under $50, it comes in pink which is perfect for any little girl. It has it's own mouse, realistic looking keyboard and screen. The graphics are average (like most learning laptops, completely black and white). It has learning games that cover spelling, english, math, science, creative thinking, and similar skills. The great thing about it is that it has a wide variety of games so that your child will not get bored easily. It also has a USB port so that you can plus a USB cord into it to connect to the web site and access even more games. I do not recommend the Fisher Price laptops as they are too one dimensional. As a former educator of preschool and pre-kindergarten aged children, the VTech Nitro Notebook was the best kid friendly laptop that I ever tested.

I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself. Who said you had to buy her a vtech learning laptop? Your first sentence was you wanted to give her a Christmas she would not have. Get her some nice gifts for her age range, a nice dinner and some good ole' Christmas spirit should be enough. I hate what Christmas has turned into. We've all missed out on what it really means. I applaud you for wanting to do something wonderful for this little girl, but I think your help and good intentions will mean more than anything

I bought my daughter the v-smile pocket because it was cheaper than the leapster, the games are cheaper and it can plug into the tv. She already had the v-smile, and the games she has will work on the v-smile pocket.

If you are will to spend the extra money. The black friday sales are coming up very soon. Walmart is going to have a brand new laptop with plenty of Ram and windows 7 $198. Your daughter will be able to use this for most games and it will also be something that you can use. This computer has 2gb of ram and a 250 gb hard drive
Used laptops are not a good idea. Plus 10 gig hard drive is nothing and 64 mb of ram isn't enough. Many of today game will need more ram and that hard drive is way to small. If it only has a 10 gb hard drive that means the computer is very old and laptops don't last that long, you will be buying something that may not last a year and won't play any of the newer games.
