well with halloween you could talk about voting

and have them vote a favorite candy either like, hersheys chocolate or skittles or something,. Whichever candy is voted favorite will be brought in to class and given to each student. its just a mock election. explain the process of voting and how its important to make a good decision, because today's choices shape our future

Okay, lesson plan on Texas:

1) Ask them about something relatable to their lives and the state. For example, if you're up north, ask them about the seasons then connect to Texas. For example: "Who can tell me the seasons?.... Good. Now what would you say if I told you in some places the temperature always stayed like summer?" Or something like that.
2) Branch into their climate/environment
3) Use that to relate to people and the history of the country

I would be more specific but it's all very dependent on what you're supposed to be teaching on. Hope this helps as an introduction.
