We Answered:

For the visually impaired: Use their sense
of touch. For example, instead of using
paint as color, use it as texture. Concentrate
on the vocabulary of touch. Use words like:

swirl

dab

brush

fast, or slow (use music with these terms)

paint sad

paint happy, etc...

Get in touch with your students' other senses
through paint, or sculpture.

For the hearing impaired, use the vibration of
music to find beats. Use visual movement
to create a "visual music."

The idea is to use the senses that people have.
Do not treat them as if they lack when it comes
to creating an experience. Treat these students
as if they communicate differently, and the ideas
should come quickly.

Look at it this way. You are not able to fly, but
you can hold out your arms, twirl around, and tilt
your head to the sky to imagine flight. Same with
your students. Help them to imagine!

yes for the most part they get the same pay rate.

In fact, some gym teacher will earn more - as they can pick up coaching slots..

You are thinking about it incorrectly. In education - we have different types of assessments. those big standardized tests arent the "end all" of what we do. Your state has determined that physical education and the arts are an essential component to an educated student. What you have done is noticed a difference in teaching styles.... thats it.

in academic classes - you are used to *summative* assessments - those are the big tests to see what you know - end of unit tests, end of chapter.. the ones that your math, history and science teachers always seem to love to give. We do this because of many and various reasons - but it is designed to see if you have mastered a set of standards.

When some teachers want to see your progression of skills - they might implement a *formative* assessment. This is simply designed to help the teacher decide how to teach needed next step skills. Many writing assignments are considered formative - think of the first draft of a paper... its not designed to be used for the final grade - its used to help you with the second and third draft. Physical ed teachers cannot say - play a perfect basketball game and Ill grade you on it. They have to observe and make small changes to help you get better - much like your english teacher and that first draft.

So rethink your observations and really look at what they are doing - they deserve every penny for what they do - I teach math and science - and I look to *them* to help me get better at what I do. We all need that coaching idea in our classrooms.

Frankly, there must be a list of credit requirements that discusses the number of credits you must have before graduation. Here is one example:
English: 3 credits
Math: 3 credits
Science: 3 credits
Social Sciences: 3 credits
Fine Arts: 2 credits
Electives: 3 credits
Language: 3 credits

Each credit corresponds to a full year of that subject area.

In other words, you are doing fine. At this point, colleges only want to look that you have taken the most challenging courses at your school, and that you have obtained good grades. You are not messing yourself up. Only after High School do you get to choose your major and/or your career. Usually, you get to choose your career during Graduate School, but you can always plan ahead.

To tell you the truth, you are doing very well. You try to balance yourself out by joining extracurricular activities, and taking the most challenging courses at your school while being the 5th of your class. The flaw is that among your extracurricular activities, you may want to decide on being an executive for at least one of them. This shows your leadership skills, and it boosts up your application. If you don't have the confidence, try creating a club. It never hurts, plus you can always become one of the executives. It's your choice. Also, try out for some jobs. At this point, you will not get paid a lot, but it also boosts up your application. There is a section on your transcript that will say "Work Experience," and this job may be a part of it. Try to be unique. Perhaps complete a research project, an internship, or even win a competition! It's your transcript, and you decide what you want to add on it.

Getting into college is not JUST about grades or JUST about extracurricular activities. It is about having balance between the two. Do what makes you happy and make sure you have a good GPA.
