I would suggest not going out with that group at all when he is there. You need to get away from this guy and move on with your life or you will forever be stuck in this childish rut.

Can anyone give me some titles of short stories that would be considered historical fiction?

We Answered:

Anything by William Faulkner or Flannery O'Conner or F. Scott Fitzgerald. Pretty much every 'modernist' writer of the early 1900's would qualify, because they incorporate both real and realistically imagined places and events into their works. William Faulkner likes to show the damage done by reconstruction to the post civil war South, for instance, and though his stories take place in a fictional county, they are very historical and semi-accurate in their descriptions of things.

Likewise with Flannery O'Conner and the depression and shortly thereafter. Most of these writers do not branch out into Romantic thoughts of ghosts or etc.

Check Hemingway also.
