Christmas Lesson Plans

Lee Said:

How do I teach 4 year olds about christmas?

We Answered:

I would start off by asking the children what they do to celebrate Christmas. Maybe write down their ideas on a big piece of paper.

Read a Christmas Story of your choice.

Do an art project, sing a song, play a game or do an experiment.

That would be about 10 minutes.

I have a ton of ideas listed here:

Preschool Christmas lessons?

We Answered:

Let kids make ornaments in Arts and Crafts. Cut them out for them and then let them each color and decorate their item. Put tape on the back of each cut out. After they have each done this read the students a short Christmas story ('Twas the Night Before Christmas?). After reading the story ask each student a question about the book or how they felt about it. If they get it right let them put their ornament on a cut out Christmas tree that you have taped up in the front of the classroom. If the student looks like they aren't going to get the answer right help them along so they can put something up on the Christmas tree. Make sure each student gets to go to the tree so no one feels left out!

Stephen Said:

what other lessons can i do in december other than christmas?

We Answered:

I would suggest doing:

winter
weather
holidays around the world
invite parents in to speak/demonstrate their holiday (Kwanzaa, Hanuka, etc)
the gift of giving (strive to instill in them that it's better to give than receive)
calendar (to incorporate New Years)

Natalie Said:

how do i make a lesson plan about making a christmas card?

We Answered:

Put your Lesson plan under headings (which presumably should have been given to you on your course).
You need:-
Date and time/duration of lesson.
Class to be used with, age, ability, number of girls/boys/total.
List of any with Statements or other special needs.
Educational Aims (Such as what you want the children to learn and include safety factors), Educational Objectives (What should be achieved. These should be assessable to see if you achieved them)
Assessment method & how this relates to the school policy for assessment
List of any visual aid you will need to use & when
List of materials and equipmentneeded.
Risk Assessment for use of glue, scisssors, paint, glitter etc (don't forget paper cuts!) and how you will avoid accidents and respond to them if they occur.
Now the lesson:-
Timed sections of what you intend to say, how any demonstrations split up through the lesson and of course what you expect the children to do at various times during the lesson.
Space for your Evaluation of how well the lesson went, was it suitable for the age and ability of the children, did they learn waht you wanted them to and what you would do differently next time were you to repeat the lesson.

Is it any wonder there are so many teachers leaving the profession (including me) The paperwork usually took 2 to 3 times as long as the lessons.

Discuss It!
