I teach those all the time (I"m in college education classes too) Teach about some famous battle that they don't know. Have them write a journal or a letter home and pretend they are in the battle. Show pictures and tell stories of people who were there. Explain what happened with the battle. That would be fun.

What grade is this? It was vary so much by grade!

I need to come up with a lesson plan for college students?

We Answered:

Have you considered Euclid's Elements? I took many college math courses and never encountered them. I'm retired and learning them now.

I've enclosed a historical site and introduction. From the "introduction site" you have access to most of the work. Many assume it would be basic geometry, but it involves a different way of thinking. I believe if the history of these papers are included with the teachings, it will generate it's own importance.

If you aren't familiar with these please read a few first. Hope you can use it.

I'm studying to be a teacher in college. My next assignment is a lesson plan. What should I do?

We Answered:

Two minutes? Do something that is fun for you and the students.

Quick, quiet, fun. Have the students line themselves up in order without having to talk, no voices. They'd have to learn to problem solve by communicating using hand gestures and body language all while working as a group. The ordering could be by birthday (month and day), early to latest. You could also do alphabetically by their last names, or first. The younger students know this as ABC order.

Just be clear what you want the students to do. I had my third grade students order themselves by birthday. My directions to them were no talking at all, order yourselves in a line (showing where the line will be) so everyone is in order by birthday, January at one end and December at the other. I didn't tell them which end would be January or December, that was part of their problem solving. Younger students you may want to be a bit more clear on this, even assist them.

After giving these directions, the 25 students managed to order themselves within a few minutes with only 2 or 3 students out of place. The objective, team work.
