No, an 8 year old does not need to be exposed to this sort of thing. Children learn acceptance of sex, drugs, and violence because they are constantly bombarded with it on t.v. Why forcibly bombard them with teen pregnancy? She'll see enough of that just going through high school when she's older. Your 8 year old is too young to get a lesson out of this anyway. In order to understand, she would have to know what led to the pregnancy in the first place. So, is your husband willing to have the sex talk with her at the tender age of 8? Let her remain an innocent child as long as she can. Don't expose her to that kind of stuff. And you are not being selfish, you are being realistic to the ways of the world. I believe in second chances, but I also believe that you can't help others unless they are willing to help themselves. This teen sounds like she needs to spend a few weeks in a detention center. I would say you should limit her exposure to your children as much as possible. Yes, teen pregnancy is hard, and this girl sounds like she has a rough life ahead of her, but you can help her without letting her have contact with your children. Good luck!!
