Earth Science Lesson Plans

Jamie Said:

If we need to teach creationism in schools as science what is the lesson plan?

We Answered:

HOW THE WORLD WAS CREATED FROM A DROP OF MILK

At the beginning there was a huge drop of milk
Then Doondari (God) came and he created the stone.
Then the stone created iron;
And iron created fire;
And fire created water;
And water created air.
The Doondari descended a second time. And he took the five elements
And he shaped them into man.
But man was proud.
Then Doondari created blindness and blindness defeated man.
But when blindness became too proud,
Doondari created sleep, and sleep defeated blindness;
But when sleep became too proud,
Doondari created worry, and worry defeated sleep;
But when worry became too proud,
Doondari created death, and death defeated worry.
But when death became too proud,
Doondari descended for the third time,
And he came as Gueno, the eternal one
And Gueno defeated death.

I need help with finding these lessons: Science?

We Answered:

First you can't really reward more than what is allowed. That being said, the earth failing to rotate on its axis would become a heated volatile volcano that would explode into eruption and mankind and all that lives would perish.

Online lessons for Earth Weather, Space Science and Electricity Units. Interesting combination. Try these links:

Judy Said:

Can someone help me with a 10 minute lesson plan ?

We Answered:

You want to do all that in 10 minutes??? You need to scale down a bit, dearie. What is it you want them to know? To be able to do?

Maybe simply define "system". Ask them for examples. You haven't said what grade level; if they're high school, they should already know "solar" system, circulatory system. Have them design a system - pair activity.

Explain open and closed. Repeat above activities. Add square dance moves (All in a circle=closed, Change partners=open).

Betty Said:

You plan to sail from California to Australia. What information could help you determine the weather?

We Answered:

If you plan to sail from California to Australia, you would first study the global weather pattern maps to know which route would give you the best prevailing winds. Then you would decide what is the best season to start sailing.

People sailing around the world, usually do it in three years. Not because it takes that long to sail but because you are bound to wait here and there for the right season with the right prevailing winds.

Sometimes the shortest route would be quite different from the straight line (actually, the gnomonic route, which is the great circle). For example, the normal clipper route from Europe went first to Brazil, before turning east around the Cape of Good Hope. That was to avoid the southerlies from the west coast of Africa.

Once started, on a day to day basis, what you would like to know is the position of the low and high pressures, and their predicted path. Again, this is to put you on a route that avoids head winds and storms. Knowing that the wind turns counter-clockwise around a low pressure in the northern hemisphere, you can then find your best route.

To get the information while enroute is not easy. Unless you have e.g. a Inmarsat dish, you can't get weather information from e.g. the USCG, or other source. On the short wave bands, there is very little given for mid ocean weather. Your best source then is through the help of a handfull radio amateurs that will relay the weather for you on the ham bands.

Ida Said:

Can I get into NYU? PLEASE ANSWER!!!!?

We Answered:

I think you have a very good chance of getting into New York University (based on sources listed below). I would focus on volunteer work and standardized test scores because in my experience, colleges seem to really look at those two areas of a resume. Also, focus on your grades this year because a lot of universities look at your junior year to see what kind of student you are. Good luck!
