Ecosystem Lesson Plans

Tommy Said:

Got any cool ideas for 6th grade ecology?

We Answered:

Here is one I have done a few times in the past.

Each student brought in the large pickle or relish jars that restaurants get. After the jars were throughly washed out the student put fish gravel on the bottom (remember to wash it too). They then filled the jar with water and planted elodea, duck weed was also put in. After 2/3 days each student received two feeder guppies (cheap ones). Each student had their own Ecosystem. Oops, I forgot the snails. Each received a snail or two as well. Jar were then sealed with their lids.

elodea - oxygenated the water
duckweed - guppy food
snails - cleaned the guppy waste

I have this written up at my web site as a pdf
Feel free to go and take a look at the entire file.

It is under 'Diversity of Living Things' on the right side, the 7th one down (Personal Ecosystem)

Ecosystem projects for ages 3 to 5?

We Answered:

For music, you can find recordings of bird calls online or in stores. They are beautiful and fun to do.
For art, I would think getting old magazines from the schools library or a public library and have them make collages of pictures of animals and plants. Or you could use butcher paper and have the students decorate it like a forest and hang it over your door.
For game, charades with the students being a different animal might be fun.
Science is hard for preschoolers. I think planting small plants like kidney beans outside would be fun to show how plants grow.

how could you work this out?

No girls must not learn, girls must learn to be good wife, lean how to plow fields, and how to be good cook.
