Tap into their prior knowledge. Ask who is more important, a student or a teacher? Then why do teachers get to cut in line at lunch? Why do principles get the best parking place? Why does the superintendent get paid more than the janitor but does less work? -then add to that which job is easier to be accepted for. Is it easier to be hired as a teacher or as a principle/superintendent? Why? -and connect that the higher you go, the less there are.

You can also use government jobs, and military as other sources that students normally already know.

Goats make milk, pigs are bacon, ducks lay eggs, turkeys are for meat, roosters are for breeding for baby chicks or for meat, horses are for enjoying the farm on.. transportation, dogs are for companionship and farm patrol

We Answered:

First choose 5 animals commonly seen on farms.
Sheep, Dogs, Cows, Pigs, Chickens.
Grab a seperate sheet of paper for each animal and head it up with the day and animal.
Find a library book that corresponds with each animal and write the author and name on your paper.
Now think up an activity [ I presume this is preschool level]
so something simple like drawing a sheep on paper and gluing cottonwool to its back. Drinking a glass of milk and eating a piece of cheese for the cow. Drawing a cat and gluing on wool for whiskers. Pretending to roll in the mud and grunt for pigs. Tape record dogs barking and get a friend to bring their dog in for the children to pat.
Each day talk about the animal read the library book and do the activity. Make sure you also remember to record how the lesson went and the childrens responses to it.
