It took me about 5 minutes to find this many links. If you can't find enough information here, then go to the search engine and put in "digestive system" and find the other 36,600,000 results. Actually, the search for "human digestive system" gives more results. Hopefully one of them will give you the information that the mom needs to explain the system to her 10 year old.

I used to think home schooling makes some kids down right weirdo's (my three neices act that way and some of the kids at the church, too). Anyways... then I stated working for public school as a teacher's assistant. Oh my goodness, if you could see what really goes on in the public schools (especially middle school age)- parents would be mortified. Everyone would start homeschooling if they could see the day to day goings on!! They are exposed to such garbage. Example- One morning I went out for my morning duty in the back area of the school and some boys had another boy cornered. They were calling him names and I thought were going to attack him or whatever. I came up to stop them and the kid begged me not to get them in trouble because they were his friends! I couldn't believe it. I didn't think that was funny at all. I told them they shouldn't treat each other like that, ect.. He looked terrified of those kids, but defended them. I still got his name and told the principle. I thought the parents should know. I don't know the outcome of that story, but at least I tried to help. Stuff like that is so common at schools- it's so sad. We don't even know the half of it because our kids don't tell us.

Project ideas (mostly from what my 14yo has done / is doing):

He can create his own computer game (2d arcade style) with GameMaker (only $20) - first link.

Perhaps a little advanced and a little pricey, but a local home schooler has successfully used an old water heater and some plumbing supplies to create his own bio-diesel refinery. I am waiting on him to give me a quote for building me one! So perhaps some business potential in this too.

Build a website - perhaps a "project ideas for homeschoolers" website.

Research your family genealogy.

Clay animation.

Metal Detecting (you don't have to buy a really expensive one to have fun and find stuff - we use one that was only about $30 - Discovery or National Geographic branded I think).

Plant black walnut trees if you have the land to do so. We are in the process of planting 25. Black walnut as timber for wood is very pricey ($3,000 - $6,000 per tree currently). The idea is that in 30 years or so, the trees will be mature and my son may have his own kids going off to college and the trees that he is planting now will help pay for his kids tuition.

Start and run an online student newspaper (link two and my own business).

Do some model (estes) rocketry.
