Keyboarding Lesson Plans

Mark Said:

What is a good synthesizer for a beginner?

We Answered:

A great synth to start out with is the Korg MS2000. It's a great synth to start out with. You have plenty of sounds to work with, it's easy to make your own patches and edit some, and it's a great keyboard for under 500 bucks. I got mine from craigslist for 325 bucks. And when you get to more advanced levels and you want more, check out the Access Virus series of synths, or better on your wallet, some Korg synths, or synths by Clavia.

Also, some great places to order synths are the following sites:

www.musiciansfriend.com
www.sweetwater.com

Sweetwater has VERY good deals, great customer service, and super quick shipping.

Musicians Friend is reputable, but I prefer Sweetwater.

Keyboard Lessons?

We Answered:

You will be able to play anything actually. It all depends on how much time and effort you put it.

If you do your lessons well and are ahead of your schedule, than push yourself and start pickup my tunes by ear or by listening to CD. This will ehlp you in developing a good ear for music.

My daughter wants to take piano lessons and we plan to buy her a keyboard-we have an old one with 57 keys but?

We Answered:

typically a piano has 88 keys.

Vicki Said:

What's the difference between keyboard lessons and piano lessons?

We Answered:

Keyboards and acoustic pianos play the same notes and the same rhythms, but keyboards have additional features such as multiple sounds, background accompaniment, recording capability, MIDI capability, etc. Keyboards are usually portable and do not always have the full 88 keys. Digital pianos are digital keyboard instruments that are less portable than typical keyboards and have all 88 keys, but have a few of the digital features, such as a limited number of additional sounds.

To learn to play the keyboard, start with piano lessons to learn the basics. Then you will need to focus on learning the style of music that you wish to play. Classical music is usually played on an acoustic piano, or at least a digital piano. Popular music, jazz, rock, country, etc. are often played on keyboards.

Sheila Said:

Can I play piano notes on the keyboard? How much will an acoustic piano cost me?

We Answered:

A keyboard is simply an electric piano.

Notes on the keyboard are exactly the same as those on an acoustic piano.

The thing to watch out for when buying a keyboard is to remember that a full size acoustic piano has 88 keys, but some electric keyboards have fewer (some of the very highest and very lowest notes may not be there). Also be sure to buy an instrument that has full-size keys the same as a piano; some less expensive keyboards have smaller "mini" keys, and if you get used to playing one of those you'll have a hard time switching to a full size piano. Thirdly, try to get a keyboard with "weighted" keys that feel like a piano; again it will make it easier, switching to an acoustic piano later.

Hope this helps,
