Ks1 Lesson Plans

Janet Said:

Help with teaching ks1 lesson on africa - senses?

We Answered:

I'm not sure what key stage means, but am guessing at most anything will do, since this is a demonstration lesson. There are lots of options, this is not the short straw.

bananas, peanuts, other tropical fruits; animal dung; straw (huts); fresh rain on leaves (try an air spray, fresh scent or after rain); smoke/fire.

Inset 4: derbydolphin re. questions asked?

sounds quite a tricky problem because really is PSHE, your local authority must have an agreed RE syllabus, what does it say on the subject? There are plenty available on the web, just search for RE Agreed Syllabus

not sure bible stories is the way to go, but that would only leave death rites of major religions which seems a bit extreme
have you had a look in SEAL

you could investigate support offered by local clergy and other faith leaders

as for staff development session, one activity is to set out some ideas in some form of mind map and then ask colleagues to add their own thoughts
you could draft some lesson plans and ask groups to critically appraise them - requires nerve on your behalf to expose yourself in this way - perhaps produce a plan for a particular age group and invite others to adapt plan to their age group
