Lesson Plan Books

Tracey Said:

Any good practical books on ESL lessons planning?

We Answered:

There are a number of good series available. We used the 'New Interchange' series for our practicum.

For ideas go to "www.eslcafe.com" and look in the stuff for teachers section. I found it useful for real classroom lesson planning.

Shane Said:

How should I plan out the school year?

We Answered:

I suggest planning month by month. That way you'll not be "winging it" but you'll have some flexibility as well.

Set the books aside for a moment and go to your state's educational website (or official home school materials if your state has the child tested each year) You're looking for what the educational goals are for your child. Now that you know the goals you can work backwards... figuring out what your child will need to know in order to achieve the objectives.

A good lesson plan will have five parts: The objective (what you want to accomplish and how it relates to the educational goals); the materials/ book pages needed; the activity (how you're going to teach); the assessment (how will you know your child has understood the material; and a part for reflection about how everything went.

Keep in mind assignments don't have to be long nor done at 100% accuracy -- the idea is that when presented with material again and again eventually the child will be able to master it (don't want to bore or overwhelm them)

Kurt Said:

where can I find a copy of the lesson plan books that Kindercare Learning Centers use?

We Answered:

When I worked for KinderCare (some years ago) I didn't have specific books. I used regular teacher books that I bought from teacher supply stores. Is there a KinderCAre website that might have the information?
