Hi Shane,

Wow off to China, thats seriously exciting! Have you completed a TEFL/TESOL course? Basically these are teaching english as a foreign langauge courses and will equip you with the skills and qualification you need to teach English. Obviously, the more hours you study the better your job prospects. Courses vairy from 20 hours to 140 hours and you can do some in person and some online. Take a look at this site http://www.onlinetefl.com/ it will give you a good break down of all the courses available to you and what they actually offer!

There is a great community where you can talk to different people how have and are still teaching english overseas. Here are some of the China groups http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboar… There is lots of information and chats about people's expereinces teaching in China and things they find fun and strange over there.

Here is some good advice on lesson plans and tips for activities when you teaching http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboar…

Hope some of this helps! Good luck with it all!

Teachers - ideas for a lesson plan?

We Answered:

Using drama is a very visual and fun way of starting lessons Teacher in role would be good and you don't have to dress up or leap about the place. Make up a short script beforehand that describes your nights work (as a vampire). Sit on a chair and say your script to the children, as if you are the vampire. Then allow the children to ask 'the vampire' questions. This way you are able to answer their questions using descriptive language and you also bring the concept to life. This should take about 10-15 mins. You can then write some key words on the board for the kids to use in their own writing. Good luck. Enjoy it. It sounds like fun!
