Lesson Plans For High School English

Harold Said:

Classroom Management tips for larger classes?

We Answered:

I think it's important not to try and shout over a rowdy classroom... if they out shout you/ignore you, you will lose any respect they may have had for you in seconds. Stand still and silent making eye contact with the trouble makers until they settle down.

Any ideas for ESL class?

We Answered:

There are hundreds of ideas around. The trick is to find out what motivates and interests your students and adapt those ideas to that.

I'd suggest doing a thorough Needs Analysis to work out what they want and then taking a look at the ideas and adapting them.

Interested in being a teacher......?

We Answered:

I don't know any blogs, but as a High School English teacher in NYC, I have used google.

I search for lesson plans based on topics, themes, books that I am teaching and I usually find several good sites. I take what I find and alter the plans to address my students learning styles and needs.

Help on creating a strong appeal for a place in a high school?

We Answered:

I go to one of the top public schools in england, and it is a lot of work.

I feel really sorry for you, but I still commend you for being able to maintain a good grade at that awful school. Persistance is key, keep applying!!

Basically, read widely so that you are well spoken. Apply early and if you have an interview, make sure you prepare. Write from the heart, tell them that you feel you can not reach your full potential at this school and you want to be pushed and encouraged to reach higher. Tell them although, you have been able to maintain good grades, you need the support of the staff to progress further, something which you are lacking at your current school.

Stuff like that, but basically sound smart and apply early!!! Hope this helps and good luck!!
