Lesson Plans For Kids

Micheal Said:

nature lesson plans for preschool?

We Answered:

Nature. When I think of nature I think of the four seasons, Fall,Winter,Spring,Summer. Developing a lesson about the seasons is best done in the spring. when you can go outside and see everything starting to grow and bloom, plant bean seeds and watch them turn into plants in the window. As fall starts to nip the air and the leaves are changing color, going out and collecting beautiful leaves and coming in to make a beautiful collage with them is a nice activity. Talking about how everything goes to sleep in the Winter so Fall is the time to harvest and store and hunker down for the long cold winter. Trees do it, animals do it, people do it. When Winter comes you can talk about how the change in weather from warm to cold affects everything but is necessary for new life to begin when warm weather returns. Art is a great way to convey an idea. Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer.Pictures
are great visual aids. There are some short videos in the library about the change of seasons. Studying the seasons ties in nicely with the study of clothing. Types and differences of clothing for each season. Pairs, matching etc go right along. Everything you teach should be in relation to some
aspect of the child's everyday life. All these tie in: Seasons, Food, Clothing, Growth, by means of showing, doing, talking about, tasting, cooking, Remember Holidays tie in : Thanksgiving,Christmas, Valenetines day,Easter, Summer Vacation. Math can be taught with all. Counting to five, ten, twenty etc, depending if three years old or five years old. Gearing your lessons to their intellectual age is paramount. Some threes are like five year olds, some five year old are more like three in their level of learning. More specifically to your question: Parts of a plant: root, stem, petals, leaves, flower. Activity : in small styrofoam cups let each child plant their own pinto bean seed in a small amount of potting soil, put it in the window water it on a regular basis and soon it will grow. Make sure you put their name on the cup so they can take it home when it grows. Always plant some extra beans in other cups, in case one of theirs does not grow they can still have one to take home with their name on it at the end. Growing beans in a moist paper towel inside of a plastic sandwich bag shows the root system developing but this is a little tricky to get going so do not let it be all you do. Remember to talk about what a plant needs to grow. Water, soil, and light. If a plant does not get enough of one of these it can not develop. By the way neither can human beings. I hope my ideas have helped and they are in no way complete but just some ideas to get you going.
