Does anyone have any suggestions for Creative Drama and Music lesson plans for preschoolers?

We Answered:

You are not there to entertain, but to teach. The very first step is to have goals. What would you like the children to achieve? I've included just a few "resource list" places. Your local University will be another resource for some of the very latest research and suggestions for pre-school classes.

Search the net for those who have been there, done that. It makes your work easier, fun and rewarding too.

Involve the youngsters, keep them involved. Do not fall into that old education trap of talking TO the children. Instead talk with the youngsters. Maybe make this your rule of thumb, 2 to 1. In other words, at the least, let the youngsters talk twice as much as you the teacher/leader, 2 to 1 ratio.

Not only will you teach, you will learn from the children as well.

Listen, listen, listen. The children themselves (creative) will have tons of ideas, if you simply provide a few props, suggestions and very very simple storylines and leads. Remember to have fun, fun, fun.

Don't forget to use those strategies that are proven to succeed. Check out S.Street of course. Watch and learn. It is likely the children already know those catchy tunes, so you will have it made. And then you can introduce new music for them.

PRESCHOOLER LESSON PLANS FOR PRESIDENTS DAY?

We Answered:

My co-teacher and I will often ask our students a question about something, we write their words down ( or help them do it if they are able to) and then they draw a picture to go with it. You could ask them something like" What does President's Day mean?" or " Who was Abraham Lincoln?" Don't expect them to give you a "correct" answer, half the fun is seeing all the silly and creative answers they come up with.

Where can I find the best (preferably free) lesson plans for preschoolers?

We Answered:

Toddlers are pretty active and young but the one thing they are acquiring at a rapid rate of speed is language. So I recommend you develop lessons based on listening skills. He will be wanting you to label everything he encounters with a word so talk to him constantly. Talk about what you are doing, what he is doing, what will be happening soon what has just happened. Then of course either sing to him or play music for him everyday. Watch a certain amount of children's programing with him but not all day or too much. Take him out in the yard and let him feel the grass, smell the flowers , touch the trees. Expose him to as much as possible of the world around him. All this you can do around themes if you like. Here is a general list: parts of his body: eyes, ears, arms, legs, etc.
Family Members: Mom,Dad,Sister,Brother,etc.Food: taste,smell,touch apples,oranges,bananas etc.
Vehicles: Car,Truck,Boat Train, Airplane:AIr,Land,Sea . Seasons of the Year: Fall,Winter,Spring,Summer: these include plants, weather, etc. Clothing: coat, shirt, pants, shoes, socks, bathing suit. SIt down and write your own lesson plans this is the best way. You should have a goal for the day, to teach or show one specific thing to your toddler. keep it simple. Have fun. Love him. Toddlers need to be watched, guided, and put on a regular schedule. Smile and be cheerful. If you are sick or nervous. Call the parent and do not expose him to you on that day. Someone is putting their most precious child in your care, for eight hours or so you will be his mommy. Be wise, be careful, relax and enjoy this very special privilege you have been given. Here is a sample schedule: 7:00 Greeting, hugs, love smiles7:15 checkphysical comfort zone: feed, check diaper, check if he is still sleepy and needs more rest.7:30 If wide awake Playtime weather permitting go outside for some sunshine and fresh air 7:45 come in clean up watch children's programing with him Sesame Street or some other educational T.V. 8:15 Quiet play indoors 9:00 offer snack, drink check physical needs9:15 storytime read to him or play music and dance 9:40 playtime indoors 10:15 nap offered if needed 11:15 Check physical needs11:30-12:30Lunchtime 12:30 Rest if no nap has been taken1:00Checkeck physical needs1:15 Outdoors go for a walk, run errands with him1:45 Quiet play indoors2:00 check physical needs2:15 Offer snack,drink2:30 Storytime, music, art, rest or play depending on how your day has gone. No naps after 3:00 because then he will not sleep well at 8pm for bedtime. 3-4 Clean up ,check physical needs pack gear for parent pick up. Love and cuddle til mommy comes. The above schedule is just a suggestion you probably have your own way or a better way of taking care of a toddler but I just thought I would offer some suggestions.

You may need to search with varying words when you do your search for lesson plans. Such as Infants & Toddlers, or pre-k, preschool. Just to give you an idea. A site I found that has thematic units is atozteacherstuff.com the full like is in the source area. Another is everythingpreschool.com
