Lesson Plans In Spanish

Jeanne Said:

What is the best, cheapest, and fastest way to learn to be fluent in Spanish?

We Answered:

I think you're on the right track. I've taken years of Spanish and learned a lot of grammar, so I think that taking maybe ONE beginners class or getting some books help a lot with grammay (you can't speak a language without knowing the basics - lol) but I've heard of people who learned English by watching Sesame Street. Also, if you can, take a trip to somewhere that speaks Spanish (I recommend Puerto Rico...I love it there!) Even if you don't speak much of the language & it sounds a bit scary, immersion is the best way to go. You'll be surprised how much you know.

Also, doing little things like changing the setting on your phone or ipod to "Spanish" setting instead of "English" and getting your Spanish-speaking friends to only speak to you in Spanish help. Check out "Meet-up.com" to see if there are people interested in learning the language around you and get together with them.

Hmmm...what else can I think of...? Itunes has a lot of great Spanish language podcasts you can download for free as well ;)

¡Buena suerte!

PS - I wanted to say that I watch novelas and even after taking like, 8 yrs of Spanish, half the time I can't understand what they're saying. Maybe it's because I learned Castellano in school and the majority of them on Telemundo & Telefutura are from Mexico, but watching children's programs in Spanish are good also. They tend to talk slower :)
