Jeanette Said:

I need info on deaf students with add/adhd, dyslexia and autism.?

We Answered:

You might try...

The Council for Exceptional Children - http://www.cec.sped.org/

Teaching Tips for Children and Adults with Autism by Temple Grandin, Ph.D - http://www.autism.org/temple/tips.html

Website of Paula Kluth, Ph.D. - http://www.paulakluth.com/autism.html

"Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew" by Ellen Notbohm" - http://www.southflorida.com/sfparenting/…

LD [Learning Disability] Online - http://www.ldonline.com/

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA - the federal special education law) - http://www.ldonline.com/features/idea200…

Misunderstood Minds - http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/misunderstoodmin…

To find more specific resources, you might do a search for the term "Twice Exceptional" or "Twice Exceptional deaf." This term often refers to having more than one "disability" label. Or search for "deaf" AND "autism", etc.

I found this site using that search term (I don't know if it is a good site or not): Deaf People with Autism - http://deafness.about.com/health/deafnes…

I hope this helps!

How do I say no to someone who has asked me for a copy of my lesson plan that I have spent hours on?

We Answered:

Tell that person the same thing you told us about not caring about the topic except in a nicer way.

For example:

"Sorry, i'm interested in a different topic than the one you have." or

"I feel like I spent too much time on this lesson plan to hand it over to somebody."

If you went to a free seminar on technology, what would you want to learn?

We Answered:

It has been my recent work with colleges that most students (Male and Female) are most interested in learning about Security, How to deal with malicious software, and 3rd, oddly enough, I get a lot of requests to go over the Office suite.

If your fiancee is teaching or otherwise conducting a seminar targeting teens, MySpace will surely be on the question list of the students. I would have to say that teaching the 7 fundamentals of PC usage is without a doubt, the most important lesson anyone can learn. With the 7 fundamentals or Principles, the end user can figure out just about anything related to PC's (software).

For a list of the 7 Fundamentals, try visiting my Tech Support Site (www.comstar-computers.com).

What are some complexities of education?

We Answered:

For one thing, grading can be a problem. I've heard many instructors lament the fact that grading can be "highly subjective." Perhaps, too subjective; so, maybe a standardized system of grading is in order. But, that can also put a damper on things, too.

Another problem is the time factor. Students often need additional help, special tutoring, etc. Some teachers find it hard to handle the load. Sure, separate tutoring personnel are available, but this does not mean that teachers can entirely relinquish this duty.
