Cody Said:

Do you know of a discounted way to buy the Marilyn Burns Math Library?

We Answered:

DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit that brings together public school teachers with people who want to support classroom learning. Teachers submit a project, describing what they need to make their vision happen in the classroom, and many project are funded.

I am an art teacher and I meet Kindergarten 3 times/week. Now I am out of lesson plan. Do you have any advice?

We Answered:

You could ask them to make paintings of different things or you can teach them different kinds of brush strokes. Because you have teached them how to make secondary colours they might know what colours go good togeather and wich dont so you can tell them to paint on different coloured paper.
To bad the school doesnt have clay because then you would be able to do lots of fun things.
GOOD LUCK

Environmental lesson for 2nd graders?

We Answered:

Here's a good one:

The start of a good lesson is a question
Ask, "What are some things that make the environment good? What are some things that make the environment bad?

Discuss it with them and make a list as you go
bad
pollution
litter
chemicals

good
trees
people who clean things up
recycling

then have them do a writing assignment, picking one good thing and writing about how it makes the world better and how we can do or make more of it
or they can pick one negative and write about how its bad and how to do less of it.

Lesson plans for the library?

We Answered:

(1) Choose an author and read several of his/her works...also incorporating activities to correspond to the stories...
(2) Set up a competition for reading the largest number of books...I used a train (for example) When a student read a book, he would illustrate the book and write a short report about the book (include title, author, publication date, setting, main characters, short plot details) This report would be completed on a preprinted train car pattern. You supply the engine and then the students add the train cars as they complete the books and reports...
(3) Read "Thomas' Snowsuit" by Robert Munche...Have the students construct a puppet show using popsicle sticks to hold the characters...my students LOVED this activity...

Where can I get the most appropriate & affordable curriculum for a 3 year old?

We Answered:

Good for you! My mom hit it early with me and I was reading at a sixth grade level entering first grade. These days you have to consider that kids growing up now will be exposed to a digital format right from the starting blocks. Although plain old paper books are important as well studies have shown.

The Rock 'n Learn series has been good for my grand nephews.
http://toys.roxsuperstore.com/default.as… or you can go to toys.roxsuperstore.com and type rock learn in the search box (leave off the 'n)

I am well familiar with this site and know that it is safe. It checks out through amazon, but a small fish keeps the profits which is always good.
