Listening Lesson Plans

David Said:

What can I do to make my a kid listen to a story? I need to make a lesson plan for it.?

We Answered:

If your not fully into the book then that child wont be into it. The book needs to be age appropriate for your child, start reading every night before bed then soon enough you got a little routine going on.

Does listening to a foreign language lesson while sleeping really work?

We Answered:

Of course not if you really are sleeping. It works for some as they are not really sleeping but listening to tape. Choice then of less sleep learn language. Or learn language in day time.

I need to spice up a prepared lesson plan...?

Telephone is probably the best game to play :-))we used to call it "Chinese Whisper" & it's hilarious the way the sentence gets altered by the end ...
a few others you could modify/use - Buzz, I Spy, & Word Association. if you want details of any of these, let me know & i'll add them.

for Simon Says [for the older kids], maybe you can add another component to process such as music or facing the wall with their back to you. this will make it slightly more difficult for them. it will also highlight the importance of visual cues to listening.

you can also do some game where there are distractions & 'noise' that can hamper communication & thought. you can record some sounds, some favorite song lines, mobile rings, tv/radio broadcasts, etc. - choose both soothing, natural, melodious sounds as well as harsh, loud, high-pitched ones. and while you are saying something, or giving instructions or playing a game, just quietly press the tape to play that sound. see how it affects them & their listening - how many can recall what you said, how many could continue to concentrate, and also which sounds did not affect their listening.

hope these help
all the very best. i'm sure you'll do great :-))

BUZZ : aim is to count numbers remembering which ones to replace with the word "Buzz".
players sit in a circle preferably, & it goes sequentially. first player calls out 'one', next player 'two', next player 'three' & so on. as soon as number 5 or any multiple of 5 is reached, the player says 'buzz' instead of that number.
if the number contains a 5 but is not a multiple of 5, only a part of it is replaced by buzz [eg. 56 would be "Buzz 6".
if a player forgets to say buzz or waits too long, s/he drops out.
the last remaining player wins.
you can play this with letters &/or words too, instead of numbers. Improvise as you see fit.
for the younger kids, you can even give them a list of numbers from 1 to 500 or something, so that they have visual cues alongside the audio ones & can still play the game with older kids.
have fun :-))

Lesson plans for 11yr old autistic child:?

We Answered:

I would find something the child is interested in as well as an aspect of the curriculum the child is currently working on. In your lesson plan, it is best to include what the child currenlty knows and how you will use that to teach them a new skill/concept. Being that the child is autistic be sure to include some aspect of repetition with the lesson. I will be glad to help if I know more about the child/what the class is...
