Mario Said:

Home schooling vs Accredited Home schooling?

We Answered:

Sounds like you're doing a wonderful job researching! :-) And yes, MANY military families homeschool, for the sake of stability and continuity.

BEWARE accredited programs!! I have seen instances where the "school"--and I use that term loosely, as a LOT of really shady operations have set up shop--trumpets that they're accredited. And they are. By an agency that either (A) no one cares about, or (B) that they created themselves. For instance, I can tell my spouse to start up The Mega-Amazing Homeschooling Assurance Group. If he does, then I can go to him and say, "Gee, will you accredit the stuff I'm doing with the kids?" He, of course, does, and then we can go around and say, "Our program is accredited by The Mega-Amazing Homeschooling Assurance Group. We rock." Some institutions will do this on a broader scale. So accreditation doesn't mean very much...AT ALL.

There are also a lot of secular homeschoolers out there...they usually identify themselves with words like "open" and "inclusive," which usually means "We won't ask you to sign a Statement of Faith, it's ok!" We don't care if OTHER people want to have a religious curriculum, we just choose not to have one ourselves.

I have one kid using a combination of programs...K12, BraveWriter, Life of Fred...and another one using Sonlight. I know that a lot of secular homeschoolers say it's pretty easy to secularize Sonlight. Know that you'll run into things on their worksheets like, "Name two ways that God made the chameleon difficult to see." (This is first grade material, lest you freak and think this is high school level stuff!)

Here are some stories about homeschoolers and college:

Homeschooler Chelsea Link feared she might not get into any top schools. She got into seven:

Then there are Micki and David Colfax, who homeschooled their three (four?) boys, and all of them went on to Harvard (and this was back in the 1980s, when homeschooling was even more unusual than it is today). Their book, “Homeschooling for Excellence,” describes their homeschooling adventure. There’s also Kerry Anderson, a student who spent her middle- and high-school career riding across the country in the cab of her mom’s big rig and homeschooling. A recruiter from Harvard came looking for her in 2007. She graduated from Harvard in 2010, and plans to continue to law school:

Could all ancient 'mythology", not be a mythology but the gods are mentioned to be Alien beings?

We Answered:

sure but they could be fallen angels as well,

i seem to recall the sons of god married the daughters of man that they found pleasing to the eye,

and they had giant children,

this is before the flood,

JOB 1:13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

JOB 1:14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

JOB 1:15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

JOB 1:16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

PSA 50:6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.

JER 20:4 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

JER 20:5 Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them

Grace Said:

anyone have any lesson plans on greek mythology?

We Answered:

what, you mean things like the Hellenistic era (323-146 b.c)

Eduardo Said:

What would be a good topic for senior project?

We Answered:

Any of your ideas would be fine. My only comment would be to narrow the subject so that isn't too broad to be unmanageable.

For example, if you were to choose Greek Mythology, narrow your topic down to an analysis of the plays of Euripides.
