Grade level?
I'll be back with ideas! :)

Here's a site with a lot of ideas. What about the "Yes, But Poem" in which the students will write about staff members. This can tie into Teacher Appreciation for May 6.

"I Used To" to show their growth over this school year.

Check this out. http://www.poets.org/page.php/prmID/103 Under "other activities".
Have your students write short poems, put them in balloons, and set them free.

Help! Where can I get good ideas for a one off poetry lesson plan for y5?

We Answered:

Hiya, I work with year 6 pupils...so don't know if I'm any help?!

Anyways:

Split the children into mixed groups (boy/girl), as they'll work better that way.

Print off a copy of the poem for each child.

Then why don't you get them to work in twos and identify key aspects of the poem!
For example: what is it about? Key facts of the poem? Does it rhyme? Is there alliteration? Personification? Are the lines long or short? And the effects of all of the above!

Remember that this is a literacy activity, and in upper key stage two it is important for them to become knowledgable on how to write a poem and identify the key features!

Also, why not consider making the pupils write their own poems on a similar theme? Act the Lawson poem out in groups? Or get them to draw a picture to compliment the Lawson poem?

Good Luck!
