Well, you don't let us in on what actually happens when you try to open Word, nor how you are trying to open Word, so we're pretty much in the dark here.

If you can open any other Office application, do that and use Help > Check for Updates. Install all updates that are offered. Also be sure to check the Apple menu for Software Update and install all updates you find there.

If you're still having the problem after that, the most likely cause would be a bad font. Open the Font Book application in your Applications folder. Select All Fonts. Then use the Edit menu to resolve duplicates, and follow that by Validate Fonts. Delete any fonts with yellow or red flags on them. Warning - Don't select all fonts.

Restart the computer and empty the trash to get rid of the bad fonts. Then try Word again. Most likely Word will be fine.
