Read Aloud Lesson Plans

Bradley Said:

How long does it take to read this book aloud?

We Answered:

You can find the statistics for this book here:
http://www.amazon.com/Two-Ways-Count-Ten…

At 848 words, it shouldn't take more than 9 minutes to read to your class. You could fill up the rest of your time with questions and discussion.

Elaine Said:

Do teachers still have students read aloud from books, handouts, etc. in a whole group scenario?

We Answered:

Yes, it is a good idea. So is asking then questions about what they have read - that shows they are COMPREHENDING what they are reading.

I have students do this with certain parts of a chapter and I teach 7th and 8th grades. We read a section and then I ask them questions to see if they are understanding what they are reading. I then suggest they highlight the answers so they can study for their test. This teaches them how to take notes on their own so they can be better prepared for pop quizzes and such. I realize you probably won't have pop quizzes in 4th grade, but starting this early will help them when they get higher up.

Lucy Said:

How do you do a read aloud lesson plan?

We Answered:

In addition to the other site there is one called thelessonplanpage.com. Teachers from all over the world contribute lessons which you can choose by subject and grade level. There's also a site called abcteach.com. They have lessons and theme units on specific books. That site isn't free, but it might be worth joining if you're doing teacher training.
