Reading Lesson Plans For Kindergarten

Kay Said:

teaching young children about community?

We Answered:

Well, for your kindergarten class, try and remember that you have to explain to them what 'community' means. I don't really understand your language question, but the second one is easy.
Give examples to the kids, and have them do projects. You could explain that a community is a group of people or familar people that are placed together. That's the class. You could say (and I'm just making up your name) "Miss Bell's class is a community b/c we see each other everyday and work together to learn."
Then maybe as the day goes on, "We have circle time as a community and read books and sing songs" and "We paint pictures and share our crayons as a community".
Basically, I'd say the most important aspect of teaching young children the key facts about community is that they are one b/c they work together.
Get books about communities, about towns, about cultures.
