FROM A POLICY STANDPOINT: Intergrating technology into the curriculum is one of the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Without it being demonstrated in the lesson, school districts place themselves at risk for loosing (or not receiving) federal funds for technology. Therefore, it will be pushed and pushed and pushed in school districts.FROM A DIGITAL CULTURE STANDPOINT: Students use technology on a regular basis (ie, I-Pods, Myspace) and it impacts every area of their lives. It would be unfair to the students not to have those resources used in education when it is available in every other area.
Remember, technology is a vehicle to assist with instruction and not a reason to ignore proper, effective teaching methods.

when you copy paste these 2 sites, you need to correct the space i put between the e and x in explorer, and the space i put between the s and a in satellite.

we use satellites all the time to get perimeters on earth. they have electronic that determine perimeter sizes automatically, with programming that fills in operation functions in the devices. like a math problem being done by a computer, except it is getting and transmitting real life information, like scanning for weather patterns over a specific area.
the computers can either calculate that area, or you can use the intel form the computers to effectively perform a separate operation.
these link have alot of different information related to technologically acquiring perimiters and areas, for purposes from a student project to global satellite operations.

personally i wouldnt spend too much time at those sites since they dont directly tel you what you need, but they can probably help you find some way to intrest the kids.
nasa should have a few kid friendly videos that will discuss ow they drive the mars rovcer around, it obviously has a radar for determining landscape and distance or they can program it to search or operate in a specific perimiter, alot of UAV's unmanned areal vehicles need perimeter programming to determing how far is ie:3 miles, and to kep them from flying over or into the wrong moountsain.

Um, my answer isn't as complex. I was going to say try www.quia.com It is an online game site that you can personally design interactive activities to review your current curriculum.Another one would be www.webquest.org. You can find all sorts of webquests for all ages for all sorts of topics.
