Vocabulary Lesson Plan

Naomi Said:

Hi, can you help me with a 'Character trait' lesson plan for foreign students?

We Answered:

i think the best bet is to play-act various common/daily-life situations wherein the trait is revealed.
if they can read, make little chits with one situation in it & their role/character. i'm thinking as i'm typing, so forgive any clumsiness.
you can use this with pairs of students so that you can bring out the trait & its opposite.
eg. you are a cab-driver. a rich person leaves a wallet in cab. what will you do? or, student 1: keeps wallet. student 2 : returns wallet to owner.
you will need to think of such situations & bring out the traits through reactions.
since there are diff proficiency levels, you can group the class accordingly. make the high proficiency ones enact scenes that have been written & distributed while the lower proficiency ones can sit & try to choose which option they like & why. this way the entire class will be involved & interacting together.

another activity you could try : collate some of the translated terms & make a list for each trait. obviously, choose languages that the students are familiar with. eg. honesty in french, spanish, hindi, & so on & obviously in english [but in a diff color to highlight it]. this way, each student will be able to immediately identify the term in his/her own language & then be able to learn the term in english.

you could also play dumb charades or more like pantomime. as an example, give a french student the word in french & in english. let him/her try to demonstrate that trait through his/her actions & reactions. it needn't all be totally mute as in the actual game. s/he can describe the scenario &/or character a bit. divide the class into mixed groups & the group solving the most traits wins.

hope this gets you started.
all the very best :-)

Can you give me good tips on how to write a good lesson plan for elementary level. grades 4-5 .?

We Answered:

Try looking at the national geographic website and the Discovery.com website. Both of these sites have tools and links that will help you create good fifth grade lesson plans. Also, you ight want to build an introductory lesson plan around a unit theme such as the Gold Rush for fourth grade California history or the Civil War for fifth grade history. Edhelper.com is another great tool and has many helpful tips for people that are unable to pay the fee. However, if you are willing to pay the fee it is only about $20 dollars for an entire school year. I really loved using this site because I good put the vocabulary words for a unit in and create cross word puzzles and word searches. I hope these ideas help.

Review the animal pictures, naming it correctly and adding what letter/sound its name begins with.

Preparations and aids:
Laminate animal pictures and vocabulary words on oaktag.

Lesson plan help. Telf troube?

We Answered:

30 minutes isn't a whole lot of time. If the students have no background knowledge, this would be quite a challenge.

What are the age group of the students? It looks to be an older group since you're having a class of 60, perhaps high school.

You can quickly and easily assess students while engaging the entire class by allowing them to model what they'd think each characteristic may look like.

So after a quick lesson as to what each character means break the students into groups. In their groups have the students model what they'd think the characteristic may look like while the rest of the students guess what it is. The model student can't vocalize.

Imagine the level of thinking the students must go through to figure out how to "act" out honest or respectful or responsible.

Wrap up the last ten minutes discussing some commonalities of the traits between the different groups.

Lesson plan help game based on animals/vocabulary?

We Answered:

Anticipated problems: Behavior ? Have rules in place for mis-use of photos, paper, scissors or stuffed animals etc.

Preparations/Aids: Photos of the 20 animals, perhaps enlarged 'feet' and have students match up to correct animal.

What exactly is the lesson you need help with?

My lesson plans look like this:

Lesson Objective: Students will correctly identify meat and vegetation eaters from studied group of animals.
Frameworks: State numbers go here
Materials: List supplies to be used
Activate Prior Knowledge: Teacher will discuss with class the concepts of pets and wild animals.

Instructional Activity:
Informational (discuss food consumption)
Guided Practice: Small group practice selecting animals for meat/veg. eaters
Independent Practice: Student will complete worksheet matching animals to food
Assessment:
Here you would use observation/worksheet/quiz or test
Closure:
Class will discuss their findings and add more animals during the week to the bulletin board
