World History Lesson Plans

Eric Said:

Do some of the younger people need a little history lesson since some of their elders might not?

We Answered:

Oh how quickly and conveniently the Democrats forget and blame everything on Bush and Republicans. Nice job reminding them.

Melinda Said:

World history questions, about the National Monarchies, 10 points!?

We Answered:

1) None of the above. the correct answer is "Christianity and Islam"
2) the word is "ReConquista" ie reconquest of spain from Muslims.
3) As Constantinople was burned during the 5th one, that probably is the best answer but Venice also rose in power.
4) weaken king John specifically, an entirely commendable goal
5) The appointment of church officials by kings and nobles rather than by church officials
6) St Louis
7)Venice wanted to hurt its trading rival.
8) While it has no significance like Mecca the answer you want is: It is where Jesus was crucified
9) Before the Moors were defeated, Jews were treated much better (but tying these two things together is specious)
10) To reclaim Holy Lands, lost in the 800's

Wallace Said:

Does Limbaugh need a history lesson?

We Answered:

It is you who are distorting history by saying that JFK intended to pull out and asked McNamara how he could do so.

JFK did no such thing - McNamara put it on the table with dozens of other options. And since he was the guy who fouled it up, his own memory of it shifted dramatically over time....

JFK started the policy of counterinsurgency - - funding rebels in the North. He was committed to victory there. He did not forsee the need for 450,000 troops, but he didn't think he'd need them. It is impossible to know whether, had he lived, he'd have committed that large a force.

You can agree or disagree with Vietnam but Truman was the one who changed our position from supporting Ho to opposing him, Ike pretty much kept our involvement at the level it was when he took office, and JFK significantly expanded our presence and the scope of our involvement there.

Even Robert Kennedy confirmed there was no plan to pull out of Vietnam.

But you go ahead and believe Oliver Stone's made-up theory that because 1,000 troops were sent home in November instead of January when their tours were scheduled to end, so they could be home for Christmas, that that meant JFK wanted to pull out.

Does anyone have a pacing guide for teaching world history in 90 days they can share ?

We Answered:

If you have a pacing guide for 180 days cover two of these lessons per day.

I don't have a pacing guide - but I do have an idea for you to ponder. Most students have a hard time remembering dates and names in history - they don't have anything to "connect" them to that they already know. Most students do have a familiarity with different types of technologies: cannons, guns, airplanes, boats, chariots and so forth.

Have you ever considered teaching history with Technology as the basis for the time line? Our history curriculum covers a lot of wars for instance. In general the army with the best technology would win. Chariots were faster than running, catapults allowed armies to throw weapons (fire) over castle walls. These things are easier to remember because the are tied to existing knowledge.

What impact did the printing press have on the economic, political and religious practices of the day? These are the kinds of things that may relate to some kids who don't really care about when the War of Roses happened. Food for thought....
