What is the purpose of High School English classes?

We Answered:

Most high school English classes teach four things of great importance: reading comprehension, critical thinking, writing skills, and how to do proper research. English ties all of these essential skills together into one class, which ensures that everyone has the opportunity to learn them. I agree that you can further refine these skills in other classes, but you need to learn the basics before moving on to more advanced topics.

"It's a situation where you either read for enjoyment and disregard hidden meanings, or actually think about the book, but be unable to get "absorbed" into the imaginary world you're reading of."

Why not do both? Read the book critically first, and if you're still interested in the hidden meanings, re-read it for enjoyment.

"A short essay of about a page and a half hitting every important detail FAR exceeds 5 pages of the same topic giving 3 examples per point."

I agree, simply listing five pages of examples isn't a very effective way to write an essay. Hitting every important detail, however, just isn't enough most of the time. Why are these details important? How did you come by them? How do these details relate back to your thesis? What are some of the details that run counter to your claim, and how do you address them? Most, if not all of these questions should be answered in any well-reasoned essay, and it usually takes quite a bit more than a page and a half to do so.

What does immigration laws say about...?

We Answered:

You can adjust status after you marry a USC. You are currently out of status.

To do this, the USC spouse would have to file form I-130(petition for alien relative), and you would have to file form I-485 (adjustment of status).

If your case is approved, your overstay will be forgiven by USCIS.

Just be aware that approval is not automatic, but it is really your only option to becoming a legal resident. Obviously you must not leave before your case is adjudicated or you will trigger the 10 year entry ban.

Also if your petition is denied, you will be detained by USCIS at your interview and subject to deportation, so do make sure you file everything correctly.
