Amy Said:
How to get a 4.0 for a GPA !?We Answered:
Hey there,When I was in Middle school, I didn't care about anything besides English which is something that I was not good at. When I went to high school as a 9th grader, everything was tough for me. I was not used to the material that I was taught, so my grades were in a range of D's-B's. The year after, 10th grade, I studied really hard to be as good as the others and also to get a 4.0 Gpa which I accomplished. I ended up with 1 A+, 4 A's and 1 A-.
Anyway, this is some of the advice that I would recommend people to do:
-Study really hard. Education comes before everything that is considered as *fun*. For example, when I come back from school, I eat lunch and then do my homework right away until I'm done. Then, I do what I usually do as fun.
-Do not be in a hurry when doing your homework. If you have to read something to get the answers, do not scan for the answers, this will only make it worse for you. 1) You won't understand the subject. 2) You might get the answer wrong.
-Pay attention in school. If you talk with your friends or other students while the teacher is explaining a new subject, this will cause you to not understand the whole chapter. In order for a student to understand the material that is taught after the beginning of the subject, the introduction or the basic idea of the subject must be understood.
-Since you say that it's hard for you to do homework because of Facebook and Aim, what I honestly do is ignore my friends unless it's something really important.

I studied and graduated gradeschool in Philippines and now we're migrating to America? We Answered:
No, you don't sound ignorant: you sound intelligent, motivated, coherent, and concerned about your education. You seem positively motivated and express a desire to excell in your life. Those are all remarkable signs, and I wish you well.Age should not be the only factor in transfer cases. The key factors should be what you have learned, what courses you have taken, and where you best fit in your new school.
Here are some ways schools may deal with your transfer:
1. They may disregard the middle school high/school differences, and just focus on the number of years of education you have had , and the academic subjects/skills you have acquired so far. They will look at your school transcripts and reports and try to arrive at some equivalency that way.
2. They may give you a few placement tests, compare your results to those of other students in their school, and then decide which grade to place you in on the basis of your scores.
3. If the school wants to place you in 7th, but you think you can definitely cope in 8th, then see if your parents can persuade the school to give you some placement (proficiency ) tests, so that you can prove what you can do.
4. If the college preparatory schools insist on 7th grade completion, then you may have to make a hard choice between taking the 7th grade to fulfill that requirement. But I think they are more interested in your completing certain course materials, in what you hav elearned so far than some magical number (7) on your school record.
I don't know about the admission policies at Lowell. But I suppose if you are an excellent student and they think you are qualified to enrol, they'll take the Philippines differences into consideration.
Best wishes to you.

I have very poor grades, what should I do?We Answered:
your parents can not legally kick you out onto the streets. Talk to an advisor at school ASAP. I would suggest you also talk to your advisor about finding you help for your school work. Teachers are required to stay after school by the institution.Don't worry. Tutors are available. Also, make sure you do not have a learning disability

Is Lowell................................…We Answered:
Lowell school system is very diverse and poor are mixed with well off because the city is small in size and I guess the school system wants to promote fairness. First, I think American education system in general is bad. That being said, I think the schools are like any other schools in the country. Plenty of opportunities. If you're Asian or Hispanic, it might be a challenge due to a lot of negative influences. Being white is easier, with the added bonus of living in a diverse environment. You don't have to worry about safety here. Don't worry about lack of opportunities. Don't worry about bad education. The only problem I have with Lowell is that there are a lot of losers here. The only thing that a lot of these kids got going is getting pregnant and not furthering their educatin. There are a lot of good kids as well, but there's a really good balance between losers and winners here. I personally just don't like looking at them or dealing with them. They do nothing to me and they're not a threat, but I just don't like looking at girls pushing baby strollers.
I live in Lowell most of my life. I don't really like it here, but there's not many places that I rather live around here.
