Just play a blues. Pick a key, probably b-flat, and have the rhythm section play a blues. Using the blues scale try to come up with a simple melody that covers one chorus of the blues. Again, think simple. Try repeated rhythmic figures. Then you can have everyone solo. Give everyone 4 measures. Then play the same melody that you created before, after the solos.

The degree itself doesn't do much other than cater to teaching music on some level, hence the name...

However, as with any other degree, if you take the right classes outside of your major, you can go to any type of grad school you want if you change your mind about what you want to do.

Most jobs out there don't really care too much about college major, just if you're an intelligent and competent person. Most liberal arts majors except for foreign languages (Philosophy, English, History, Art Appreciation, etc.) don't really lend themselves to any specific career path except for teaching. But most of them get random jobs that they like. Except for within the past couple of years, since the economy is so bad. But hopefully, by the time you graduate, there will be jobs out there...
