A great middle school chemistry science fair idea?(please i need this under 5 min and due 2moro)?

We Answered:

Make a potato gun and test different distances of objects (Potatoes, apples, tennisballs, pears.) I did it when i was little, just fire them at the same angle at the same PSI all you need is PVC pipe, glue, and an air compressor, you just cant take your gun in the school for obvious reasons. for your hypothesis: If I shoot a potatoe and an apple out of a spud gun, then the potatoe will go further because it is more dense. or something along the lines of that, my school let me do that, but that was 5 years ago...

Can you help me w/this middle school Chemistry question?

We Answered:

A. average atomic mass - it is true that the average atomic mass is different, but that does not explain the difference in a metal and a nonmetal.
B. # of valence electrons - since they are in the same group the trend states that they have the same number of valence electrons. So that one is out.
C. average atomic radius - This is a periodic trend that states as you move down a group the average atomic radius increases. This makes sense because there are more electrons in lead than carbon.
D. # of isotopes - Nothing to do with the property of metal or nonmetal
