Do you have to be a Girl Scout to go to Girl Scout Camp?We Answered:
You don't have to be in a troop to go to GS Camp. In most Councils, you can choose between joining GS just to attend camp ($12/year) or pay extra for insurance for non-GS-members (usually the more expensive option, but not hugely, like $25) in addition to the regular camp fees. It's a totally acceptable official "pathway" in GS membership to join only to go to camp. :-)

Should I be a girl scout leader? We Answered:
Becoming a Girl Scout LeaderIt's that time of year! Recruitment time for both girls and leaders. The two go hand in hand; in other words, without the adult leaders, there is no Girl Scouting.

What are some GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD ideas? We Answered:
Your GS Council will have to approve your project before you begin, and a good idea would be to talk to advisors (and girls if you know them) who have been through the process to find out what their decisions are like. Unfortunately, GS Councils vary a LOT in what they approve or not, so it's hard to say. That said, I think you may want to push yourself more - from what you're describing, while you will be doing some original ways of collecting pencils, you're basically doing a service to an organization that already identified a need in a community and is working to fix it. It's sort of a fine line, but the Gold Award is meant to be you figuring out a need and figuring out how YOU think it should be fixed, then working on lasting change. This would be like organizing a blood drive for the Red Cross - yes, you'd be doing a lot of work and would have to find ways to advertise it, but you'd still be doing what another organization asked you to, you know what I mean?
This site from GSUSA has useful info, including examples of nice service projects that could be transformed into Gold Award worthy projects (and lots of other FAQs about money and all sorts of things): http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_cen…
Good luck with your project!

Should I be a Girl Scout Learder? We Answered:
I don't think that it would be weird at all if you were to be a scout leader. I know that they need good leaders. I was a girl scout leader for a year but I quit because even though I was great with the girls and had fantastic ideas for things to do and charities to help, I was not able to do the paper work because my son had been killed the year before I volunteered and with the grief I was still experiencing I could not concentrate when it came to the forms that I had to fill out. In our area there were a lot of scout leaders that just sat around and I was all about doing the activity that the girls were doing. If we went skating, I was out there falling on my butt right along with the girls or climbing the rock wall at the skating rink. One time I played laser tag with all of the girls and I ended up with so many bruises on my knees the next day it wasn't funny. Other leaders sat back thinking I was weird for doing all of these things but I bet the girls in their troops remember which troop leader was diving behind barriers in laser tag! Enough about my experience. All in all I had a blast and I highly recommend getting involved.Ricardo Said:
