Middle School Math Games

Jessica Said:

Middle school math question?

We Answered:

He can move two different ways in three different directions:

2 x 3 = 6 possible moves

edit:
You keep seeing the answer "8" because people are not completely reading your question. The game piece cannot be moved down!

Elmer Said:

Can someone give me some fun math games/activities for middle school aged kids?

We Answered:

use things they like. such as small candies like jolly ranchers.

if you are doing things like geometry and shapes use twinkies or those cupcake things and have them find the volume and stuff. (my math teacher did it with us all the time last year in 8th grade)

Middle School Math Questions!!!?

We Answered:

Figures it might help to give quick definations:

Mean: mathematical average (add all the numbers, and divide by the number of items)
Meidan: Middle number, when all numbers are placed in order
Mode: Most frequently occuring number
-----------

1) Putting the scores in order

Abe: 20, 20, 7, 7, 5, 4, 2
Bart: 15, 13, 12, 5, 0, 0, 0

Abe Median: 7
Abe Mean: (20 + 20 + 7 + 7 + 5 + 4 + 2) / 7
= 9.29 (rounds to 9)
Abe Mode: 20 and 7 (both appear twice)

Bart Median: 5
Bart Mean: 6.43 (rounds to 6)
Bart Mode: 0

2) The measures of central tendancy for Abe are incereased by the final game.
The measures (except the mode) are decreased for Bart.

----------

3) 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 10, 12
Mean 3.75
Median 3
Mode 1

----------

4) 10, 35, 70, 75, 85, 85
If she wants 75 to be her median mark, she needs a 75 or higher (so the new number to the right side of the list, just before or after 85)

5) If she scores 100, her new mean will be:

10 + 35 + 70 + 75 + 85 + 85 + 100 = 460
460 / 7 = 65.71

So she needs greater than 100 to bring her mean up to 70, which is NOT possible.

Give me an idea of a game that is math related, that middle school kids could play.?

We Answered:

Multiplication bingo, have the answers on their bingo card, say aloud the problem have them find the answer under the letter you called.
