Rewrote my first chapter of book, is it good?

We Answered:

Wow thats pretty good! I suggest you put that on http://www.wattpad.com/ because it is an ebook community and a few people usually get spotted by editors and some people get their books published! I definatly LOVE the plot! It is worth finishing the story.

Can you help me with this classic math puzzle?

We Answered:

now I'm assuming that the sons wish to avoid chopping up cars to satisfy the will as those partial cars would be worth next to nothing compared to their value whole. So the trick to this one is to satisfy the will according the the ratios of not each son to the total, but between each son

now say the eldest son gets x cars, the middle gets y cars, and the youngest get z cars. Then we want x+y+z=17 we also want 2x=17=3y=9z so y=3z and that gives us
x+3z+z=17
x+4z=17 now multiply by 2 to get
2x+8z=34 and from above we have 2x=3y=9z thus we have
9z+8z=34
17z=34
z=2
y=3*2=6
2*x=3*y=3*6=18
x=9
thus the eldest gets 9 cars, the middle gets 6 cars, and the youngest gets 2 cars

there is another trickier solution that leads to the same values but I prefer the method above as it shows more of the underlying math and why it works. The trikier method is to simply "borrow" a car from somewhere to increase the total to 18. thus the oldest gets 18/2=9 cars the middle gets 18/3=6 cars and the youngest gets 18/9=2 cars and since 9+6+2=17 the "borrowed" car can be returned.

Should I become and engineer or doctor?

We Answered:

Major in engineering and take the premed courses (it's not a major, so you need to pick a major anyway). That way you can get a few years of experience in both before making up your mind, and if you don't decide to go to med school, you've got a high paying major with good job opportunities to fall back on.
