Middle School Reading

Willard Said:

What science magazines exist for students at the elementary or middle school reading level?

We Answered:

Discover, for kids, is a pretty good start. Would you also be interested in websites that are free? I have found some that are really good for kids. Email me if you wish and I will send you some. Also, Komando dot com is good, but it isn't just science per se'.

Glenda Said:

Need prompt ideas (middle school reading level)?

We Answered:

Just a point of information. What do you normally write? And why is it you need someone else's idea? If you are able to come up with ideas in your other genre, why not in this one, too?

What subjects are of interest to middle school aged kids? What do they do? What problems do they face? As I recall, middle school age is a "tween age" - somewhere between being a kid and an adult. How could that relate to a story?

Give it some thought. Analyze your audience and write for them. I oppose people asking directly for ideas, but I can offer guidance and point you in the right direction. I can remember about 15 billion things from when I was in what was called "junior high" back then. Most of them revolved around trying to act grown up when you were still just a kid at heart.

And there is a BIG variable in middle school. A 6th grader is in a very different place emotionally from an 8th grader. Consider that.
