Middle School Software

Kenneth Said:

Does anyone know any good book/ software that will help prepare for the praxis middle school mathematic exam?

We Answered:

math is a subject that continues to build on itself. I would figure, if you have a math book, you should be able to learn from it.

Erik Said:

does anyone know the software some teachers use to teach kids to use the keyboard in middle school?

We Answered:

You can use typer shark game on yahoo games. They have different levels, and it's fun.

What do you get taught in a computer class in middle school?

We Answered:

Middle school will focus on basic skills and work their way up depending on what resources the school has.

Typically, they will focus on typing skills, and basic programs such as power point and publications. Internet use and research is also an important topic.

Schools with greater access, resources, and creative teachers will go on and create programs in the middle school that revolve around creating blogs, editing movies, and other things like that.

Where can I find free name origin software?

We Answered:

http://www.ancestry.com/learn/facts/defa…
gives you surname (last name) origin. It is free. After that, it opens a window to find given name meanings. Give it "Smith" for a surname if it doesn't find yours.

The second part of your question sounds like horoscopes - Scorpios have hot tempers and Virgos are shy. I don't know where you'd find that.

BTW, "a lot" is two words.

Can anyone recommend a good course of study for middle school zoology?

We Answered:

A Zoology course that has an Intelligent Design/Creationist viewpoint is offered by Apologia Publishing.

They have a three-part Zoology course that was written for homeschool flexibility, (for instance if you had two children a couple years apart and wanted to teach their science together, you can do that.) So the books are adaptable for all upper elementary and middle school and can be taught in any order.

Zoology 1 is flying creatures
Zoology 2 is swimming creatures
Zoology 3 is land animals

The Apologia.com website has a really weird layout and they want you to log on to really see anything, and they charge full price too, so the "source" link (at the very bottom of my post) takes you to CBD instead where you can actually see the table of contents and read excerpts and reviews of the books.

(They also have Botany and Astronomy for this level)

If you want a website that will help you make your own course of study you can try this one http://www.kids.gov/6_8/6_8_science_anim…

...and if you want an evolution viewpoint, most of the middle school ones are biology texts with a zoology section.

What Grammar software is there out there to help with my law school writing?

We Answered:

You might take a look at Merriam-Webster. They have come across for me when I needed help. I purchased 5 different programs from them and you can also go on-line using their products. Hope this is a start. Good luck, you sound a lot like me when it comes to grammar.

Kathleen Said:

What is the best software for students to use to aid musical composition? I teach middle school by the way.?

We Answered:

When Finale notepad was free, I would use that, and have kids even get their own copies at home. Now, it is ten bucks. I taught middle school from 1971 to 2008 ( and lived . . . . .) - now my son does, and so does his wife. (My husband was a HS choral director for 34 years.) He (son) is finishing his MM in Digital Music, and we both have all kinds of top-end stuff for US at our homes - but for kids he is enthusiastic about Noteflight. Since I do not need it, I have not looked at it yet - planning on doing so soon.

I used Sibelius more than Finale toward the end of my career. And for plain old General Music classes, the two best investments I EVER made were the Remo Afro-Cuban drums ( bought thew whole A set . . ) and a double set of two-octave chromatic Boomwhackers - cheap and fun. Even did stuff with my adaptive kids. In Sibelius and Finale, you can print HUGE charts with all the notes the size of half-dollars, and the same COLOR as the Boomwhacker - a pre-reading technique. Gets even the Slugs in class involved - even if it is an ostinato. BTW - If you mash/lose ONE Boomwhacker, the manufacturer will sell you ONE for cheap - between 3 and ? bucks. So - even kids with minimal skills or motivation CAN compose/notate/rehearse/perform/critique…

Good luck - any body who teaches Middle School gets to go straight to Heaven, no atter what - so party hearty when school is out!
