I would just immerse him. Think of the advantages to him of being completely fluent in German. That would _far_ outweigh any disadvantages of being a year older than his peers, IMO. And he won't become fluent if he learns German as a second language. He just won't.

I think the international schools are going to be _ferociously_ expensive. My brother teaches at one (which is actually just over the border into Austria) and the fees are more than three times the private school fees round here in the UK.

Nobody can be sure only the school itself can tell you. But I know this is embarrassing to ask. When I was in 7th grade we had to do that and it really was an upset for me, too, especially since I had no idea it was coming.

However, after a few times it just didn't matter any more. You will adapt and get comfortable in no time. Assuming this is going to happen, of course.

So if you are otherwise excited about going to military school, don't let this one worry you much. Also keep in mind you won't be the only one who is apprehensive about this. Some kids won't care, some will have done it before, some will be just as worried as you. Don't worry too much, it will all work out and you'll be wondering why you were so concerned.

If you do exactly what your parent, teachers and all people over you tell you to, you will love it. Military school is not a joke.

It is training to become an officer in the armed forces. They will teach you discipline, and character, and make you learn to obey. If you can't follow directions don't go.

there may be others, but the only ones that are officially recognized by the military is the JROTC. credits earned there count toward advanced promotion on enlistment in service someday - the others don't.

Do you know where? Is it in the same state or area as you? They do get weekends & holidays you know. It sounds like they may be bluffing him a little, why not just go to summer school, like everyone else & get a tutor, be prepared more for next year.

Generally, long distance relationships don't work (hate to say), but if there is anyway you can go see him almost every weekend by bus or train & communicate by text & computer, then that changes everything. He should buckle down & study, what interests him? Maybe he should have a choice of classes that interests him. When I was in school, you had a choice of what to do, some people took their GED & went to vocational school, so they could get a job, in the real world. I think that school is outdated & flawed because they don't teach you what you need to survive in the real world & they don't make learning fun, he should come to California, on the coast somewhere, teachers are cool here & no one fails bcause they can't afford to hold anyone back a year... hmm, good luck!!
At any rate, keep him interested, by being sexy sometimes, creating mystery, & asking him about himself & talking about him, to him & laughing or empathizing with him, guys love that!!
