Debbie Said:

How are my chances for a good medical school?

We Answered:

From what I have heard, the first thing that med schools look at is one's GPA and MCAT score...They look at these numbers before even glancing at your e.c.'s.

If I were you, I would look at the average GPA of the med school that you're interested in applying for. From what I have heard, a GPA under a 3.5 usually raises red flags with certain schools. I have a pretty bad feeling that the 3.3 GPA will probably hurt you later on.

You should probably check out the site that I listed as a source to look at the average GPA and MCAT scores for US med schools.

MY advisor told Me that a great MCAT score will not make up for a mediorcre GPA.

...just be sure to apply early and often.

Just another day in paradise?

We Answered:

For most people to have raised this issue would be a good thing.

There is a real problem, party with people settling in our country without enough English to cope, and partly with Education Services' running down their foreign language services. These children are now just dumped in the classroom and the teacher expected to 'get on with it'.

The final paragraphs however are misleading. There are far more children coming into our schools speaking Polish, Czech and Slovak than people from the countries mentioned. Legal EU immigrants vastly outnumber asylum seekers.

And 12% of pupils in our schools not having English as their first language doesn't mean 12% can't speak English. I know many children locally whose first language isn't English, but they nearly all speak perfect English as well as their first language.

We do not have in our schools, as the author of the article tries to suggest, 12% of children unable to speak English.

And who is the author of this article? We don't know 'alan j' hasn't creditted it. But you can be sure of one thing, 'alan j' didn't write it.

Because 'alan j' is yet another of the identities used by Roy West, BNP candidate (failed) in Dukinfield. He is a serial poster of copy & paste articles to Y!A. He is using advice given to him by the Fuhrer on the BNP website abour cyber-propaganda, and posting articles sent to him from BNP House.

So, in this case, I do dismiss the questioners intentions as being racist, because he is spreading propaganda on behalf of a racist political party.

Robert Said:

Are you for the elimination of recess or against it?

We Answered:

I'm in favor of recess at the elementary level, and in favor of a nutrition/social break at the middle school level. Face it, adults take coffee breaks twice a day at most jobs, and school IS work (or should be)-so the young deserve a break too.
I'm a substitute teacher (5 years+), and have taught from preschool through high school seniors at all 22 sites in my district.

How Should a Middle School Student Prepare for an Ivy League School?

We Answered:

Im entering the 7th grade this year and I was wondering the same thing. When they say "Well Rounded" I think they mean Academics, Volunteer work, and playing a musical instrument, sports, and dancing.
