Science Experiments Middle School

Miguel Said:

are the following project topics considered a middle school science fair project?

We Answered:

well anything is a science fair project as long as you can

create a hypothesis
perform experiments to prove or disprove your hypothesis
and form a conclusion.

so im pretty sure you can do both topics.

Kathleen Said:

What is a good science fair experiment for a middle school level?

We Answered:

If you are wanting to use dry ice, then try this!

Take a chunk of dry ice and place it on a flat surface. Warm a spoon by dipping it hot water for 30 seconds. Then, firmly press the spoon against the dry ice. This should create a "singing" sound. This sound is caused by the CO2 pushing the spoon away, but the pressure from your hand is pushing it back toward the dry ice. All this happens so fast that it creates a vibration that produces this "singing" sound.

Shirley Said:

i am in an teacher ed program and i need a quick fifteen minute science experiment for a middle school class?

We Answered:

Talk about light and how it reflects, then have the kids mix water paints to make colors out of the primary colors.

Talk about lift and velocity and then have the kids make paper airplanes. See what designs fly the best, talk about why and how the planes fly.

Talk about static electricity. Make a baloon stick to your hand, bend a water stream, etc.

Ken Said:

Eggs Strength? How are eggs strong, and why? This is for science experiment (Middle School) thanks!?

We Answered:

From a physical perspective, eggs are strong because they have an arched shape. The force applied to one spot is distributed along the surface of the egg, so the force required to break it is greater than if the egg had flat surfaces (where the force applied would stay at one spot). This is why the ancient romans used arches to support their aquaducts and the colliseum, instead of using a flat top with vertical supports.

From an evolutionary/biological perspective, eggs are strong so that the embryos aren't destroyed due to weather, other animals, or a parent sitting on top to keep them warm. However, they still have thin shells so the hatchlings can break them open when they are ready to come out.
