Go green day-- turn off all the lights, except in classes that don't have windows. Don't use electricity, except of course in the kitchens and bathrooms. Have teachers open the windows and use sunlight. (Going green is very cool right now.)

"Preferred lunch" program-- have people vote on their fave lunches, and ask the cafeteria to serve that

"Leave a mark"-- have each class do something that leaves a mark. You can start a tradition, make a mural, landscape the front, or anything else. No grafitti, and administrator approval is necessary for all ideas.

"Straight A Social"-- Have a thing where all the straight a or a/b students can get out of class an hour early and hang in the cafeteria every grading period. You could even give out ice cream or chips or something.

First thing, I do not agree with Leon K. (a previous answer). It's not all a popularity contest. That's what I thought before but found out different two days ago. I ran for judge in this field trip thing we're doing for school where we run a town, and I was running against one of the most popular girls in school. I knew I wouldn't win because I wasn't "popular", but I did. And I have also run for student council at my school and gotten it. Here's some of the things that I would do:

-Tell them what you would do as a leader. First, listen to the issues your classmates want solved. Then, in your speech, tell them about how you will solve them.

-Tell them the experience you've had (4-H, other clubs, etc.)

-At the beginning of the speech try something like: Hi my name is (put your name here), and I'm running for your student council vice president. As your vice president I will...

-At the end of the speech, say something like: So vote for me, (put your name here again), for your student council vice president

-Tell them the responsiblities you have at home (babysitting, etc) and how these will help if you get the position

-Include how you will try your best to represent the students

And that's it. Remember when you are making your speech that these people are nice :) and focus on an encouraging friend or imagine the students in their underwear or something, who knows. Good luck, I hope you get the position! :)
