Wow. The problem is that there are so many things that can go wrong with a car, and you need different tools to diagnose what is wrong, and different tools to fix them, and parts that are specific to that particular make and model and year.

You are much better off starting with small engines, like lawn mowers or leaf blowers, just to learn the principles of how an engine works. The other problem is that hardly any mechanic will want a kid messing with his tools. My advice would be that you should go around on trash pickup day and look for mowers that people are throwing out. Just bring it home and see if you can figure out why they threw it out. Yeah, well, it won't run, but why?
