She'll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1 of her senior year in high school. This application will allow her to be considered for grants and loans available through the federal government. The FAFSA can be completed on line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. It also wouldn't hurt to do a school visit sometime this fall to meet with the admission/financial aid rep.

It'd be easier if you played a sport. Academic scholarships are hard to get. Most of the time you have to be studying in a particular field. Unless you're valedictorian of your class, you should apply for financial aid and lots of scholarships. That's what I'm doing.
