Pauline Said:Canadian university scholarships and grants...?
We Answered:Depends on the school, but I would definitely say so. I go to a fairly prestigious school in Ontario that doesn't give away a whole lot of scholarships, but the ones they do give away go mainly to students with averages of above 90%.
In grade 12 I managed to graduate with an average of 94% and I got enough scholarships to finance about 75% of my costs (that's tuition, residence, meal plan). You should check out the website of the school you are interested in, click on their scholarships section and they should have a list you can apply for. You may not be able to apply for the fall scholarships yet, but give it a couple months and you will be able to. Also, many of the grants and bursaries do not require applications and you get them based solely on your marks (those are the best kinds!).
If you apply for government student loans (OSAP in Ontario, I'm not sure what the other provinces' loans are called), you also become applicable for other scholarships based on monetary need (OSAP has the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship that you can select to apply for on your OSAP application, I assume other provinces have similar scholarships). Even if you don't know if you'll get OSAP, you can still apply for it anyway. Even if you only get a couple hundred bucks, remember that interest doesn't build up until 6 months after you graduate and getting OSAP makes you applicable for other scholarships run by OSAP.
But again, your best bet is to check out the prospective schools' websites to be sure.
