Having community service hours would definitely make you are desirable applicant because companies like to award money to both a conscientious and intelligent. however, do not just do service out of vanity -- do it because you really want to help those around you. A popular option is feeding the homeless or something with an organization. But my advice is to find something that you truly enjoy and put your heart and soul into it. You won't even realize how many hours your raking it when you enjoy something.

dont add it. if you do enough community service on your own then you shouldnt even miss it. and since its for a scholarship, the board might call for references and you dont want to chance it coming out.... scholarships are very competitive and the board would rather give it to a student without court mandated time than one with it.

I would strongly recommend being a Big Sister in the Big Brother Big Sister program, not only is it community service but there are always Little Sisters in need of a good role model. Also you can see them pretty much as much as you would like. The only downside is it would take 2 to 4 weeks to get established. You can go here to get started:
