Fulbright Scholarship Program

Shelly Said:

Shoul I quit my job for Fulbright scholarship?

We Answered:

1. Don't quit the job until you actually get the scholarship;

2. The 10 month of experience at the accounting firm will be fine - at least you'll have gained the experience at a firm, even if you get the scholarship.

3. You can put that your resume re: the scholarship, if you are lucky to be chosen.

4. If you are chosen, ask your employer whether you will be able to return - they may be willing to give you leave (unpaid). It doesn't hurt to ask.

5. Go for it!

Arnold Said:

Did Obama lie when he said he was foreign in college to get financial aid or when he said he's a citizen...?

We Answered:

He's working on precedent - got an education as a kid in Indonesia that was only available to citizens of Indonesia (meaning his father had him naturalized there).

He did need something to show he was a US citizen for aid, though so his grandmother likely petitioned for the "in lieu" document that was obviously issued long after his birth (the official wording used was not used then) that was on his web site during the election. The level of proof is not high for those; all it takes is a single sympathetic bureaucrat who sees a way for a promising student to get a higher education that wouldn't otherwise. How could he know that this not quite legal document would be used to fool some people on a future President's place of birth?

"The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” With this goal as a starting point, the Fulbright Program has provided almost 300,000 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns".

However, I do not know if da Prez had one and, if so, if he was chosen to study in some foreign country. I believe Kerry had one to study in France that he used to avoid Vietnam until the government said no to an extension (so he tried to avoid Vietnam afterwords by enrolling in the Navy Reserves).

Shannon Said:

Why did the Israelis prevented those students from making their dream true?

We Answered:

This is a very naive question

You do Israelis burn their fields?
Why do Israelis demolish their homes?
Why do Israelis occupy their land?
Why do Israelis keep over 10 thousands of them in the Israeli prisons for years and years?
Why do Israelis implement capital punishment on 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza for almost 2 years?

They are evil. This is why.

Who should I contact during the Fulbright application process?
The Fulbright Office in Baghdad is your main contact during the application process until you arrive in the US. Their email address is: fulbrightiraq@state.gov
You should not contact the Institute of International Education (IIE) who will be working on your application on your behalf, nor should you contact potential US universities.

You should probably contact the e-mail address above with your detailed questions.

The link below is for a Google search which turned up a lot of hits. You should be able to have a lot of your questions answered there.

Best wishes to you!

(I'm an American.)
