BSN(nursing) Scholarships...help?

We Answered:

There are alot of grants and scholarships out there for prospective nurses, being as though that field is really in demand right now... The college should help you...There is actually the federal stafford loans and the the federal nursing loans...these two loans do not need a cosigner and doesnt go by the basis of your credit.... You can also file for financial aid...depending on which state your in you can get alot of state grants and scholarships... Like i live in PA...We have the PEll grant...when i was in school they paid $2000 a year... I dont really know any websites with scholarships for nurses but if you search you will find one...Actually if you try to get a job in a hospital right now...they will actually pay for you to go to school and get your nursing degree...I work at a hospital and they are paying for me to go to school to become a respiratory therapist....

I'm about to graduate from nursing school, but I don't like nursing!?

Having a degree in nursing opens a lot up besides hospitals. Yes, you may need a year or so of experience under your belt, but it may not be at a hospital. (Most of those EXTERN programs are at the worst places to work to "weed out" folks anyway.) Glad you didn't fall for it.

Have you considered being a school nurse? Not just elementary schools have nurses. Colleges also employ nurses as well. Talk about great hours!! Christmas break off, spring break off, lots of others too.

Teaching at the college or community college level is also a great job, but again you have to have a little experience under your belt.

Community mental health centers employ nurses, you'd have a private office, not have to be on your feet all the time...
Summer camp programs have nurses, you could prob be a medical social worker, work in a residential day treatment facility, even some large private corporations hire their own nurses, insurance companies hire nurses, The nurses at the cancer treatment center I am familiar with are awesome!!!

I'm attaching a link for you.
Yes, you'll have to do grunt work for awhile, but everyone starts at the bottom and moves up! When in a job you don't like, your goal should always be the job you want to get.
Good luck,

Where can I find Scholarships for Nursing or such?

We Answered:

colleges.mywebcommunity.org - try this site. It has info about different US scholarships for college students and their grades requirements.

Are there any scholarships that are allowed to be used after you graduate to pay off loans?

We Answered:

There are nursing student loan forgiveness programs. You have to work in an area where there is a high need for nurses. I will list some links that should help. I also recommend searching Google.com and Yahoo.com for any programs within your state. However, I think there is a provision that you could not go into one of these programs if you had already consolidated your student loans. Good luck!

Graduate Nursing Programs?

YOu might make a better choice after you have worked in the field for a bit. It would certainly make you a better NP to have actually worked. Clinicals are just not the same. Once you see what is actually involved & can work with some NPs--you may have an easier choice. You also don't have much "street cred" in either advanced position without some time in the trenches.
